TEC Certification for Routers, Switches & Telecom Equipment

TEC Certification for Routers

As per the Mandatory Testing and Certification of Telecom Equipment (MTCTE) regulations, it is mandatory for manufacturers, importers, and service providers of telecom equipment to get the TEC certificate. This certificate ensures that the telecom equipment products are tested according to the safety standards, technical parameters, and electromagnetic compatibility requirements. Under the MTCTE scheme, various guidelines are in place to ensure compliance with the safety and technical regulations, such as Generic Requirements (GR), Interface Requirements (IR), and Service Requirements (ER).
The TEC certification is provided to manufacturers, importers, and service providers after rigorous testing and verification by the Telecommunication Engineering Centre. The testing ensures that the different telecom equipment complies with the safety and performance standards as established by the MTCTE.

The businesses looking to enter the Indian market with different types of telecom equipment must obtain the TEC certification to display proof of compliance and protect the rights of consumers. Apart from that, businesses that have obtained the certification get market credibility, a competitive edge, enhanced brand reputation, and increased consumer trust.

Exploring the basics of TEC certification

The Indian and global market of today is teeming with high-quality telecom products and competition to retain customers. In such a scenario, it is becoming increasingly important for manufacturers to bring only those products to the market that are safe and reliable to use. Telecom products that do not adhere to the quality and safety standards are either phased out or banned by the TEC authorities. Also, the consumers do not buy such products as they are aware of their requirements and only choose the best available products in the market.

The TEC certification is one such regulatory requirement for the telecom equipment that ensures the performance of these products based on the safety and technical guidelines issued by the MTCTE. Before selling or importing routers, switches, and telecom equipment in the Indian market that fall under the mandatory certification list, it is important for the businesses involved to get the TEC certification. This helps them attain a market edge, gain consumer trust, maintain a good reputation, get new global opportunities, and attain a smooth flow of business in the long run.

Businesses that do not follow the guidelines of MTCTE for their telecom products before selling or importing them have to endure legal fines, penalties, product bans, or recalls. Therefore, it is essential to comply with the guidelines to ensure smooth business in the market. Before going ahead with certification, manufacturers must know the category of scheme in which their products fall. TEC certification offers two types of certification, namely the Simplified Certification Scheme (SCS) and General Certification Scheme (GCS), which incorporate different requirements.

Process to get TEC certification for Routers, Switches, & Telecom Equipment

The step-by-step process to get a TEC certificate is mentioned below:

  1. The applicant needs to register on the official portal of MTCTE and get the credentials for login.
  2. Use the credentials to log in to the portal and proceed with filling out the application form.
  3. Apply for the testing process by an authorized laboratory and submit your product samples for testing. The products will be tested to ensure they follow the safety and performance standards as mandated by MTCTE.
  4. Once the products pass the testing and verification, the applicant will get the test reports. They need to submit these test reports along with other necessary documents. The documents that must be submitted along with the application are a factory license, a trademark registration copy, a Bill of Materials, PCB layout, circuit diagram, etc.
  5. After the submission of the application form, the required documents, test reports, and payment of fees, the TEC authorities will check and verify them.
  6. Only upon satisfaction, the TEC authorities will grant the certificate to the applicant.
